Teaching Experience
Although I discovered my interest for teaching at a young age, I have unfortunately not had the opportunity to gain much experience teaching throughout the years. However, I fed my passion by helping people around me who had more difficulty than I did, I also helped my younger brother to do school work at home by guiding him the best I could. It is only recently that I had the chance to deepen somewhat my experience in a school environment. I will briefly share both of my previous experiences. I also greatly look forward to my upcoming field experience at the end of this semester.
First Field Experience
At the End of our first semester, we got to spend 12 days in an elementary school setting. I was placed in a grade 3-4 class in English. During that period me and my partner were mostly assigned to observed. However, our cooperative teacher also let us help the students during work period. I also got the opportunity to teach a few math lessons to the class. During my stage, I was also able to assist my cooperative teacher during her parent/teacher night. I found that experience deeply enriching it has enabled me to see how these type of meetings should be approached by a teacher in order to always keep in mind the best interest of the student.
Substitute at Voyageur Memorial Elementary School
Following the completion of my first year in the teaching elementary program, I got the chance to substitute in a Cree community near my hometown. From the second week of May 2011, to the last day of school, June 23rd, I got the chance to substitute almost everyday in a large variety of classroom settings and grades. I got to spend at least one day with all the grades from pre-kindergarten to grade 6 in both French and English. This allowed me to familiarize myself somewhat with the school environment. Even though there were times where I found it very difficult to accomplish what I wanted to do with the students, it has still motivated me to finish my bachelors and become an influential teacher to young students.
